How to Make Glow in the Dark Printer Ink

Trying to make you next craft project stand out, how about using glow in the dark ink. You can turn your home ink jet printer into a glow in the dark printer with just a few items from your local crafting store. If you do not have one in your town, you can simply go online and find glowing powder at a number of craft supply websites. Once you find the glowing powder it’s time to get to work.

What you are basically doing here is adding a simple chemical to your ink, causing the glowing effect. Once you have found the powder, you need to purchase an ink refill kit that is designed for your specific ink jet printer. You will need an empty printer cartridge and a syringe to complete this project.

Take the glow in the dark powder and in a small bowl mix approximately 1/4 teaspoon of the powder with 3 teaspoons of ink from your refill kit. You need to mix these two ingredients for a minute, then place in the microwave and run on high for 25-30 seconds. Remove the bowl and let it cool for 5 minutes to allow the solution to properly mix.

Locate the refill holes on your ink cartridge. If you cannot find the holes then consult your printer manufacturers web site for a diagram as to where the hole is. Once you have located the hole, use the syringe to draw up the glowing solution from the bowl. Insert into the ink cartridge and fill slowly.

Run a few test pages with your printer to allow the solution to settle. Once you have the document printed you need to place the project under direct light to charge the glow in the dark solution. After 30 seconds you can turn out the lights and admire the masterpiece as it now glows in the dark. If you own a black light, you can enjoy the project glowing continuously as long as the black light is on.
